Introducing ‘FLANNEL Spotlight,’ a new Q&A series celebrating a community of creative identities across the globe. For Summer 2026 (across the Northern Hemisphere anyway), we’re shining a light on assorted cultural tastemakers and the ways in which they challenge the status quo through their work from behind-the-scenes. Fortunately for us, it’s an exercise in superb sartorial taste too as each individual is a bona fide fan of the brand, and so here we get to showcase the unique ways in which the wearer chooses to make FLANNEL their own; be it by changing the look of a design from day to night or adding layers to an outfit whilst crossing timelines. In essence, it’s an ode to one of the most vital components of our design process: embracing the art of wanderlust and going your own way. Enjoy!

How would you describe your style?

The older I become the more frequently I find myself dressing in a classic prep style that's mostly vintage with some well-made and sturdier / newer pieces that complement more of the more timeless ones. Admittedly, they give more of a twist to a traditional outfit. I've been moving away from that relaxed comfort look by wearing fewer shorts and tees in the summer, and so all this to say: I'm getting old, and I want to dress like an adult.

You chose the Repare Goods Denim Pleated Pant & FLANNEL Samuel Supima T-Shirt. Why were these pieces in particular your immediate favorites?

They’re simple garments with a really flattering cut, and I knew these pieces would seamlessly fit in with the rest of my wardrobe. They’re basically items I know I can rock with whatever else and I know they’ll still look great.

Any stories / details on where you’ve worn them? What you’re teaming them with?

I’m yet to be invited to any fancy all-white parties so I've mostly been pairing the Repare Goods pants with button-down linen shirts. They’re really breathable for denim and so wearing them during the summer on a hot day (like this photo, at the Guggenheim Museum) has been easy.

FLANNEL is an Australian brand and so on that note, can you give us a few of your favorite Australian names / talent on your radar?

There's this great comedian named Aaron Chen who moved from Australia to NYC recently, and he's super funny. Then there’s Ken Sakata, a designer and content creator, who puts out these fascinating videos. He's developed an amazing ability to tell stories about specific garments in an exceptional and really engaging way.

Can you recommend us a book to read, a podcast to listen to, and an album / playlist that enhances your experience when traveling?

Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino is the perfect book for traveling. It's light yet dense, and each chapter is its own world that has the ability to shift the way you see any city you're visiting. My friend Avery Trufelman has an amazing fashion history podcast called 'Article Of Everything’ and the most recent season delved into the vast influence military gear has had on fashion and apparel. It’s incredibly well-researched and engaging, she also has a perfect voice that feels authoritative without being too intimidating. When traveling my go-to album for sleeping is Secret Life by Fred again & Brian Eno, or anything by Onehotrix Point Never. I've also been playing Nirosta Steel's new album recently, and that feels like it’s been beamed in from a different time so I’m a big fan.
